When faith and fabric meet…

Ever feel like you need an inspiration, a boost of joy or some sought of motivation?  Perhaps a word from God, a kind gesture from a stranger or an encouraging word from a friend.  The last few days have been long and hard fought.  Can you blame me for wanting to see a break in the clouds?  There comes a moment when you’ve been hard pressed on all sides you long to see the sun and experience the peace of calm waters.

So imagine the joy I felt this morning when I woke up, started preparing for work and noticed something a little different.  The overwhelming restlessness wrestling within me subsided.  There was no mental to do lists rattling my brain and wrapping me up with life’s chores.  Instead I sat down with my coffee while Winnie ran in the rain and I lifted up a quiet hallelujah to my savior.

As if that was not enough God delivered my inspiration at work in the form of a quilt specially made by the hands of a dear sweet friend and hand delivered by her kind husband.  It wasn’t just a simple ordinary quilt.  It was literally filled with words of inspiration on the fabric to last me a lifetime.  Here are some of my favorites quotes.

“Our family is like a patchwork quilt with beauty all its own, pieced together with love and warmth to bless our little home, to comfort and console through our laughter, love and tears… it offers a remembrance of our yesteryears”

“But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you.” Matthew 6:33

“He makes all things beautiful in His time” Ecclesiastes 3:11

“All things work together for good to those who love God” Romans 8:28

“We may not have it all together but together we have it all.”

“A family is a patchwork of love.”

And my personal favorite: “Families that are stitched together with love seldom unravel.”

When I was at a loss for words and needed an inspiration to write, this quilt came busting thru with hope.  The type of hope that tell you your prayers are heard.   Yet even with all its beauty the greatest part of this story belongs to the hands of the maker.   The beautiful hands of a kind, loving friend who out of the kindness of her heart and leading of the Holy Spirit created an heirloom my daughter will treasure forever.

And when I had a moment to realize the enormity of the project I felt their prayers stitched into every patchwork all I could do was cry tears of joy.  It’s a beautiful thing when faith and fabric meet.
