A few days before surgery my forever puppy, Bella passed away. We lovingly called her forever puppy because she remained perpetually tiny. As if she never intended to grow up or leave our lap.
A few days ago we discussed the possibility of getting a hypoallergenic therapy dog and found her on an Amish farm. She is not really a license therapy dog but I lovingly refer to her as such due to all the love and cuddles she provides. It’s like medicine. She’s been with us barely 24 hours and we fight over who gets to hold her next. Even Ray, who is not much into lap dogs, has a special place in his heart for Winnie…yay!
Why Winnie? There’s a Winnie the Pooh quote that reads “if there’s ever a day when we can’t be together, keep me in your heart, I’ll stay there forever”. With Bella gone I needed a reminder that she’s forever in my heart. When my son was a child we also watched and loved all the Winnie the Pooh movies making the meaning behind her name twofold, twice as great. What a perfect way to memorialize those memories with the name “Winnie”.
It’s no wonder God expresses his love for animals. In Proverbs 12:10 it reads “a righteous man regards the life of their animals”. Most importantly we are forever in His heart.
Sometimes the smallest thing takes up the most room in your heart. ~ Winnie the Pooh
