Being Still

It’s Mother’s Day at the beach, it’s overcast and cold. The weather in Maryland can be somewhat fickle that way. Yesterday we were lying on the beach under the warm sun and today it’s the extreme opposite.

Today there are no words. No clear thoughts. The sounds of the waves were louder than my own words.

All I cared to do this morning was enjoy my cup of coffee while admiring the waves crashing on the shore and took in the enormity of the ocean. I’m sure it’s power has probably silenced other writers as much as it has inspired.

The silence was totally acceptable with me. The Bible encourages moments of silence. In the book of Ecclesiastes 3:7 it states there is “a time to keep silent, and a time to speak”. Being quiet is a struggle for me at times yet l was reminded this morning of Psalm 46:10 to also “be still and know that I am God”.

We got ready to return home and face tomorrow. My heart was heavy but I rather walk thru any storm with Jesus than to have a simple life without Him.

The lyrics of the song Better One Day by Matt Redman, inspired by Psalms 84:10 said it best.

“Better is one day in Your courts
Better is one day in Your house
Better is one day in Your courts
Than thousands elsewhere”
